Why Do People Avoid Politics?
Politics: The most misunderstood subject
Four of my father’s brothers were older. There was the spiritual seeker among them. He renounced material luxuries and was alone. To portray familial sympathy in the face of property greed, the son of the second older brother began looking after him with no apparent need.
What do people do in politics?
They pretend to behave selflessly with a heart of the lowest selfishness.
I was the principal of a school. Its managing trustee occasionally made secret calls to a few teachers to gather information about my work in the school.
Politicians also secretly monitor everyone in their surroundings.
The older sister of my wife frequently inquired about the gifts that her sister(my wife) intended to send to certain common relatives. Then, to establish her supremacy in the eyes of their relatives, she would sometimes send gifts that were more costly than those of my wife.
In politics, people supersede one another to project a specific image.
A well-known builder in my area got private information on an airport planned to be built on a specific road. He bought an enormous plot of adjacent land at a cheaper rate.
Was it political or business?
Many claim it’s a business. It is, in theory, politics. Politicians use classified information to their advantage in elections.
When my wife bought anything, even a necessary item for our younger son, she always bought something for our elder son as well, maintaining a healthy balance of love and care between the two boys.
Was that not the appeasement strategy that governing politicians frequently apply to increase their chances of regaining power?
What distinguishes these two scenarios from one another?
A policy of appeasement is not a political tactic, but everyone’s routine practice.
One Who Lives a Social Life Cannot Ignore Politics
Many people dislike the term “politician,” even though practically everyone gets intimately involved in politics in their lives. They neither take part in active politics nor pass any political comments.
Despite the trend of not actively taking part in the ruling government, people perform civic duties and cast their votes. These are clear indications that we take part in politics daily, but most people do not consider themselves to be in politics.
This logical paradox results from the belief that elected politicians and policymakers are the only ones involved in politics. But, that everyone plays an active role within the political structure is deliberately ignored.
Our acceptance of the existing laws of the country and the number of institutions, which are basically political, involve us in politics.
Education system in a country is completely political. Who can escape from the gamut of education? The political system designs and directs curriculum decisions, school funding, and educational policies. When parents take part in parent-teacher associations or argue for reforms in their children’s schools, they indirectly involve in politics.
In the same way, political decisions also influence taxation, healthcare policy, and even traffic laws, which affect our day-to-day existence.
Can you avoid politics? If you can, only at the pain of exile.
Why Do People Stay Away From Active Politics?
1.Some people do not actively take part in governing organizations or run for political office, since politics is frequently challenging and stressful. It can intimidate ‘to be under continual observation’, ‘be exposed to the public’, and have ‘to compromise and negotiate.’ Instead of playing formal political roles, many people would rather make a difference in politics indirectly through non-government organizations, grassroots movements, or campaigns.
2. Unfavorable opinion about politicians and political systems dissuades the people from joining active politics. Politics frequently relates to power battles, party devotion, and corruption. All these challenges can discourage people who genuinely want to make a positive difference from entering politics because they are afraid of getting mixed up in this polarizing atmosphere.
3. People avoid active politics partly because of the financial and personal sacrifices involved in pursuing a political career. For those who place a higher priority on stability and personal well-being, political work might provide obstacles because of fundraising, campaigning, and its time-consuming nature. The time investment and personal sacrifices necessary for a career in politics often exceed any noticeable benefits for many.
4. People may think that there are other, more efficient ways to bring about change. Without having to take on a formal political role, people can address problems they are passionate about through community organization, activism, and grassroots movements. Maybe they feel that by using these methods, changes can take place more swiftly and directly. People may believe that they can effect change more successfully outside of the established political systems.
Even after being involved in politics for a long time, people are reluctant to be called in politics due to multiple factors. Some of these factors I have discussed above.
Politicians Not to Be Blamed
Categorically, I reject to blame politicians for the prevalence of opportunism, nepotism and individualism.
Rather, I consider the people more responsible who declare politics is dirty and counsel without asking to keep distance from politics.
Such people may have the potential to think for the masses but, they sit in their living rooms to criticize.
The majority of people are to blame for allowing a bunch of politicians to play a shady game with the public and for taking a back seat in the political system.
They are to blame for letting politicians exploit everything for selfish designs.
Is it not a time to wake up?
How long shall we cheat ourselves in the excuse of corrupt politicians?
